Helium Leak Detection

The heart of the most sensitive and accurate instrument for detecting extremely small leaks is the mass spectrometer, which is used to measure the rate of flow of a tracer gas through leaks using vacuum, pressure or vacuum-pressure techniques. The mass spectrometer detects the tracer gas and converts it to an electrical signal proportional to the size of the leak. Helium is usually used as a tracer gas because of its unique combination of properties:

  • Helium is extremely rare in the atmosphere, so there is little ambient “noise” to interfere with leak measurement
  • Non-explosive, non-toxic, completely inert (no contamination of the tested product)
  • Will not contaminate and desensitize its own detector as is common with detectors using other tracers
  • Helium is a small, light molecule (mass 4) and will flow readily through extremely small leaks

Pascal. A modular solution for fuel rails leak testing. Pascal is built from a standard fuel rail leak detection platform, specifically designed for low-and high-pressure fuel rail leak detection applications and is offered as a single or dual chamber configuration. The Pascal allows customers to use the same machine when they change programs; they just roll in and roll out carts with different tooling designs. This system is easy to maintain, and the total cost of ownership is the lowest in the market.

Helium Recovery Systems
Helium Recovery Systems is the solution to lower the cost associated with tracer gas consumption. While industries strive to meet increasing demands to offer higher quality products at lower prices, the need to efficiently recycle process gas becomes apparent. Helium Recovery features a group of high-efficiency gas recycling systems that significantly reduce tracer operating costs. The Helium Recovery Systems offered consists of ASME coded pressure tanks, a set of compressor(s), gas analyzer, microprocessor controls, and all necessary valving, gas regulation, and piping.

VIC also offers Helium Recovery as a Service (HRaaS) for businesses that need the Helium recovery service but don't want the capital expense.
