Leaks are never a good thing, and worse is that everything leaks, but leaks do not at the leak at the same rate. A check for leaks is to make sure nothing leaks out or leaks into the part where the product could be damaged. Certain products only need to be water tight for short period of certain time. Others need to be tested to a low leak rate because they need to continuously operate for a decade or longer. Customers in aerospace and military utilize VIC leak detectors in laser-based range finders on fighter planes and tanks to pinpoint targets. Some leak test applications cannot utilize Helium as a tracer gas, but users will want the benefits of leak testing with an inert gas. Argon has proven to be a very effective tracer gas, but because 1% of the atmosphere is comprised of Argon there are challenges with using VIC. VIC customers have been using our Argon leak testers for over 20 years because VIC produces the only leak tester designed specifically for leak testing with Argon.
Many components are too large to be tested with a benchtop unit with a Bell Jar or Test Cup. VIC created the Intrepid series of Custom Leak testers to address the needs of Military contractors in leak testing large subassemblies and final assemblies in a leak test system. The Intrepid line of leak test systems can; i) utilize Helium or Argon, ii) accommodate even the largest of parts and iii) support a variety of leak test methods, including but not limited to; Under Vacuum Leak Detection, Evacuation and Helium Spray, etc.
Many Hermetically sealed electronics and components require users of leak testing these parts to “bomb” the test part with an overpressure of Helium for a specified time and then place the test part within a test cup or under a bell jar where the helium leak tester measures the leak rate of helium escaping the bombed test part. VIC also makes operator training easier with our Ultra Fast Test (UFT) option whereby operators can automatically cycle start the leak test machine when closing the lid. VIC manufactures all our Bombing Stations and Test Cups to meet any test product size.
